Thank you for purchasing the Andatech® Prodigy 3 / 3 Lite breathalyser.
The Andatech® Prodigy 3 is a state-of-the-art device used to detect Ethyl Alcohol from a valid breath sample. It uses an electrochemical fuel cell to measure the concentration of alcohol from the breath sample expelled from a human subject.
If alcohol is present, a corresponding voltage is generated from the fuel cell, which is proportional to the alcohol content of the sample provided by a human subject. This voltage is then sent to the CPU and converted to a subject’s BAC (blood alcohol concentration), which is then displayed.
The operator of this device should read the operation manual and be familiar with the device operation before using it. Retain the manual for future reference.
Refer to the letter included with your device for a link to the full user manual with advanced settings and Andalink guide for the Andatech Prodigy 3 / 3 Lite breathalyser.

Features
1. Disposable Mouthpiece
Each mouthpiece is individually packaged and sealed for hygiene reasons. Before each new Standard Test, attach a new mouthpiece to the sample port to prevent contamination from a previous test.
2. Sampling Cup
The sampling cup can be used for Passive Tests and is reusable as long as no alcohol is detected in the previous test. Each sampling cup is also individually sealed.
Attach a sampling cup to the sample port to take a passive test. Do not allow the mouth to touch the sampling cup during testing.
After use, remove the sampling cup and clean it with alcohol or boiling water. Allow it to dry completely before re-using it.
3. Button to Remove Mouthpiece
The mouthpiece can be removed from the breathalyser hygienically by pushing this button up. This will eject the mouthpiece for easy disposal without touching the mouthpiece.
4. Touch Screen Display
This displays the instructions and the alcohol concentration reading of breath tests taken on the unit. Select the icons and buttons on the screen using the stylus pen provided.

Conditions for testing
Measurements and conditions for test
- Use a clean mouthpiece for each test.
- The optimum temperature range for operating the unit is 0°C to 45°C. Use within this temperature range will limit condensation from a subject’s breath and ensure an accurate reading is taken.
- Do not allow samples containing smoke, tobacco or other chemical products to enter the unit, as damage to the fuel cell sensor can occur.
- The maximum reading this device can show is 0.300g/210L. Any reading above 0.300g/210L will prompt the device to read "Error".
- It is recommended that the operator observe the subject for approximately 20 minutes before administering the breath test. This is to ensure the subject does not consume anything.
- Following this procedure will ensure the subject’s saliva is clear of alcohol so that it does not alter the outcome of the breath sample test.
- There must be an interval of at least 15 minutes after alcohol consumption as alcohol residue in the mouth may give a false reading. Such residue may also be left by aromatic drinks, mouthwash, medicines and drops, as well as by belching and vomiting. Mouth rinsing with water or non-alcoholic drinks does not substitute for an interval.
- A person’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) can continue to rise for up to 2 hours after drinking alcohol. If a result is close to the designated BAC, it is recommended to wait and retestafter 20 minutes.
- It can take 10 hours or more for a person’s BAC to return to zero after a high BAC has been reached. A further test should be carried out later in the day or the following morning.
Liability for proper function or damage
The liability for proper functioning of the instrument is irrevocably transferred to the owner or operator in the event the instrument is serviced or repaired by personnel not employed or authorised by Andatech. In such an event, the warranty will be void.
Operating conditions
Working temperature of the Andatech® Prodigy 3 / 3 Lite: 0 to 45°C
Storage temperature range of the Andatech® Prodigy 3 / 3 Lite: -10 to 70°C, 15 to 90%RH
Note: Inappropriate storage of the device will shorten the lifespan of the fuel cell sensor.
Operating instructions
Refer to “Conditions for Testing” before conducting a Standard or Passive test.
On/Off
Press and hold the power button for 1-2 seconds to switch the device on or off.
Taking a standard test
- Attach a mouthpiece onto the sample port and select the Standard Test icon.
- The breathalyser will take a Blank Test to ensure the mouthpiece and sensor are clear of alcohol from previous tests.
- If the Blank Test result shows 0.000, the unit will proceed to test mode (skip to step 5).
- If alcohol is detected, verify that a clean mouthpiece is being used and select retest.
- Use the stylus pen to input information.
- When the screen displays “Please Blow”, take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece with a slow and steady breath until the BEEP tone stops and the Time and Volume bars are full.
- A photo will be taken while the subject is blowing
- A passive test can be taken by pressing the Confirm/Enter icon while the subject is still blowing.
- The test result will display on the screen. Press the Next Screen icon to go to the next screen (review results).
- If the subject did not blow within 30 seconds, the administrator can press the Save icon to confirm that the subject refused to take a test, or press the Confirm / Enter icon to allow the subject to take a test again, or the Previous Screen icon to exit.
- If the subject failed to give a valid breath sample, the administrator can press the Save icon to confirm or the Confirm / Enter icon to allow the subject to take the test again.
- Select the Print icon to print the test result.
- Push the button underneath the mouthpiece to remove the mouthpiece and take another test.
Taking a passive test
- Attach a sampling cup onto the sample port and select the Passive Test icon.
- When the screen displays “Please Blow”, take a deep breath and blow into the sampling cup until the BEEP tone stops.
- Press the Confirm / Enter icon to take a manual sample while the subject is still blowing into the sampling cup.
- An “Alcohol Detected” or “No Alcohol” result will display on the screen.
- The next test can be taken immediately after a “No Alcohol” result.
- If “Alcohol Detected” result was displayed, use a mouthpiece to perform a Standard Test to confirm the test result.
- If alcohol was detected during a passive test, clean the sampling cup or use a new sampling cup to prevent residual alcohol from affecting the next test result.
- Select the Print icon to print the test result*.
*All print functions are applicable to the Prodigy 3 only.
Note: A passive test only checks for the presence of alcohol in a breath sample. An accurate test result can only be obtained via a Standard Test using a mouthpiece. Passive test results will not be stored in the device but can be printed immediately after a test is taken.
Record
- The device can store over 100,000 test records along with the subject’s photo.
- Select the Record icon to view details of past test records.
- Select the Print icon to print out individual test records*.
- Select the Search icon to search for test records based on their record number, date, time, mode or result. Then press the Search icon again to confirm.
*All print functions are applicable to the Prodigy 3 only.
