Andatech Launches "Know Before You Go" Campaign to Protect P-Platers on Australian Roads

Every journey starts with one decision

Thousands of young Australians unknowingly place themselves at risk every year — not because they deliberately drink and drive, but because they mistakenly believe they are safe to drive after drinking the night before.

Residual alcohol remains one of the least understood risks facing provisional drivers. Feeling sober is not the same as being alcohol-free.

To help address this knowledge gap, Australian safety technology company Andatech has launched Know Before You Go™, a national education campaign encouraging young drivers to replace guesswork with certainty before getting behind the wheel.

FAST FACTS

0.00 BAC is mandatory for all Australian P-Plate drivers.

Coffee doesn't lower BAC.

Sleep doesn't speed up alcohol elimination.

Alcohol leaves the body at a relatively consistent rate.

The only reliable way to know you've returned to 0.00 BAC is to test.

Why this matters

Road safety authorities consistently identify newly licensed drivers as Australia’s highest-risk motorists.
The first 6–12 months of independent driving represents the period of greatest crash risk, with inexperience remaining one of the leading contributors to serious road trauma.
For provisional licence holders, even a small amount of residual alcohol can result in licence suspension, financial penalties and potentially life-changing consequences.

Morning after myths

✗  Coffee sobers you up
✗  A shower makes you safe
✗  You can tell by how you feel
✗  Everyone processes alcohol the same

A different approach to road safety

Rather than focusing solely on enforcement, Know Before You Go is designed to encourage behavioural change through education.

The campaign empowers young Australians to build safer driving habits by helping them understand:

✓ Why residual alcohol occurs
Why alcohol affects everyone differently
Why assumptions can be dangerous
Why checking before driving is the safest decision

Through digital education, community engagement, retailer partnerships and awareness campaigns, Andatech aims to encourage informed decisions before every journey.

Supporting safer decisions

Knowing you’re safe to drive shouldn’t rely on guesswork.
As part of the campaign, Andatech encourages drivers to consider Australian Standard-certified personal breathalysers as one practical tool to verify they have returned to a legal 0.00 BAC before driving.
Objective testing provides certainty where assumptions cannot.

Campaign objectives

EDUCATE Increase awareness of residual alcohol.
EMPOWER Encourage informed decisions before driving.
VERIFY Promote BAC self-checking as a responsible habit.
PROTECT Reduce preventable crashes and licence loss.
SUPPORT Contribute to Australia’s road safety goals.
