Operating Instructions

  1. Insert a mouthpiece into the ALX3000 handset.
  2. Turn on your vehicle ignition.
  3. Press the “Enter” button on the handset to start the device. When it displays “Perform breath test”, you will hear a beep sound.
  4. Wait until the device finishes warming up.
  5. When the device is ready for a breath test it will display “BLOW”.
  6. Take a deep breath, place your lips completely around the mouthpiece, and blow steadily into it.
  7. The breath sample will be analysed, and the result will be displayed.
  8. If you pass the breath test, then a countdown will follow, allowing you to start your car within this time frame.
  9. If you fail, a temporary lock-out will follow, and the vehicle will not be able to start.
Note: If the amount of alcohol detected is above the set limit value, a “FAIL” message appears on the display and a different alarm sound is produced for each alcohol concentration:
    - LOW level: 3 “beeps”
    - HIGH level: 1 long “beep” for 10 seconds
After the alarm, the ALX3000 will automatically lock for 15 minutes, and retests are not permitted during this time. The next test-able time will count down and can be confirmed on the display. All events are recorded within the ALX3000.

Guidelines for Safe Operation

  1. Do not place the handset on the floor of the vehicle while driving. If the device is not stationary, then may interfere with the pedal.
  2. Do not use the handset if it is not safe to do so while driving your vehicle.
  3. If the ALX3000 requires a breath test during driving, please park in a safe place before performing the test.
  4. If you do not perform a random breath test requirement, the service interval will be shortened, and these actions will be recorded in the device’s memory.
  5. Operation, abuse, misuse, and tampering with the ALX3000 are a violation of the law and are subject to fines and legal liability.
*This guide may vary depending on the country’s legal standard or equivalent.
  6. Avoid exposing the ALX3000 to other substances such as smoke, which may affect or damage its sensor.
  7. Avoid products containing alcohol such as washer fluid, hand disinfectant in the passenger compartment, or in the same place where your interlock device is being stored.
  8. Do not expose the sensor to high alcohol concentrations by drinking alcohol, eating foods with alcohol (such as ripe fruit, etc.), or rinsing your mouth with alcoholic mouthwash shortly before the breath test. We recommend rinsing mouth with water, or drinking water before taking the breath test.
  9. Use personal mouthpieces for hygiene reasons. Mouthpieces must be checked and replaced frequently to ensure proper operation of the ALX3000.

Driver Change

If you wish to perform a new breath test (e.g. at a driver change, please perform the following):

  1. Turn off the vehicle - the free start time will be displayed on the device.
  2. Hold down both the Menu (“M”) and Enter (“U”) buttons on the handset for 3 seconds.
  3. ALX3000 is then blocked, and will return to standby mode.
  4. New startup procedure is now active.

Emergency Bypass

BYPASS: You can start the vehicle without an emergency breath test.
In the event of an emergency, you may override the device with an emergency code that is given to the person in charge of the vehicle during installation. The codes are single use, and the device must be taken to an authorised service centre within 72 hours of activating the override.

If the override function is used, please note the time of override as indicated on the device. If you have not contacted Andatech within the period of 72 hours for instruction, the vehicle may be permanently locked from starting the ignition until the interlock is removed. The car would then be required to be *towed to the closest service center.

*Extra costs will be involved for towing services

Immobilisation may be bypassed as follows:
* To enter the override PIN code, access the device’s menu, select the access code, enter the code within the “enter code” option, check the “contact and service center” name in “service.no” in the access code and visit the service center within 72 hours.
